Calming Art Workshops designed to help you de-stress and find your flow.

The new pandemic in our lives is stress and as a result everyone is needing more calm in their lives. While we get told to do yoga and meditation, this is not accessible or easy for everyone. Sometimes we’re too anxious to sit still and try to clear our minds. Crafting something with our hands can occupy us enough to take us more easily into a flow state and help us de-stress from our busy lives.

Having suffered from burnt out from art teaching in schools in early 2024, Em went through a process of researching Burn Out and how to heal. While practicing yoga, exercising, meditating, prioritising sleep, a healthy diet, screen limits and trying to relax were all part of her stress coping strategies they weren’t enough to help her through a perfect storm of work pressures, compassion fatigue, parenting teens, caring for elderly parents and menopause.

This self-study led to an understanding of the importance of curiosity, creativity and playfulness for wellbeing. Especially for adults who have often disconnected with this. Having spent the past 10 years as a primary art teacher, Em realised she had the skills to not only help herself heal from burn out, but use her engaging art teaching skills to design Calming Art Workshops to help others. This led Em to create:

A series of Sunday afternoon calming art workshops to beat off the “Sunday scaries”; Add an offering in the Wellbeing Program space with workshops by request and Share simple calming art activities you can add into your day via social media.

2025 will see Em bring her Calming Art Workshops into workplaces and to community centres across Melbourne including: Maidstone, Elwood, Hampton and Box Hill to teach others to reconnect with their creative selves as a calming strategy. The workshops are inclusive and designed for all art abilities as they focus on the process not the end result.

Em encourages you to “find a creative moment each day, just for the calm of it”.
